My 6-Week Journey at TIIDlab Pre-Fellowship Program

Introduction

The TIIDELab Pre-Fellowship Program has been an enriching journey, where I embarked on a comprehensive learning experience focused on web development, Python programming, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This program provided a well-rounded education that not only honed my technical skills but also enhanced my soft skills. Here's a detailed account of my six-week experience.

Weeks 1 and 2: onboarding and Web Development

We kickstarted the pre-fellowship program with an onboarding event, where we were introduced to the curriculum and the expectations for the program. The first two weeks of the program were dedicated to the onboarding and the basics of web development including setting up our developer environment for our journey.

During these initial weeks, our tutor, Ayodele Samuel Adebayo using the CodeWithUnclebigbay platform taught us to build a responsive barbershop website using HTML and CSS. This hands-on project allowed me to grasp the fundamentals of web development. With the knowledge acquired, I put it into practice by building the Mabel Pharmacy and Stores website and my personal portfolio website .

These projects were instrumental in solidifying my understanding of HTML and CSS and gave me the confidence to tackle more complex tasks.

Weeks 3 to 5: Diving into Python

Python classes began in week 3 and continued through to week 5. Our tutor, Mr Ibrahim Tijani, guided us through the basics of the Python programming language, ensuring that we had a solid foundation. We also learned how to make API calls, which opened up a world of possibilities for integrating various services into our projects.

During this period, we were divided into teams for our team project. I am a member of CodeCrew, and our project was to build a text-to-speech application. I applied the knowledge gained from the Python classes and contributed actively to my team's efforts. This project named Vocali, was a valuable experience, as it allowed me to collaborate with my team mates and develop a functional application from scratch.

Weeks 4 to 6: Exploring Artificial Intelligence

In weeks 4 to 6, our focus shifted to AI classes while still learning python. These sessions were eye-opening as I learned about the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, how to use AI effectively, and a practical approach to leveraging AI platforms. The hands-on nature of the classes made the concepts more tangible and applicable to real-world scenarios.

Soft Skills Development

The TIIDElab experience was not solely about web development and coding. We had four educative soft skill development sessions that were pivotal in shaping our professional personas. These sessions covered:

1. Attitude and Success: Emphasizing the importance of attention to detail and confidence.

2. Presentation Skills: Teaching us how to effectively communicate our ideas and projects in a presentation.

3. Product Marketing and Storytelling: Highlighting the art of marketing products and telling compelling stories to engage audiences.

4. Article Writing: Guiding us on how to write insightful and impactful articles.

These sessions were incredibly valuable, providing us with skills that are essential in the tech industry and beyond.

Interactive X Space Meetings

An additional highlight of the program was our interactive X Space meetings. These meetings fostered a sense of community and provided a platform for us to share our experiences, ask questions, and learn from each other.

Leadership Experience

In week 5, I had the privilege of serving as the assistant class governor. This role was an experience like no other. It brought me out of my shell and put me in a position to offer assistance to my fellow teammates. It was a valuable opportunity to develop my leadership skills and contribute to the smooth running of the program.

Conclusion

The past six weeks at TIIDELab have been nothing short of amazing and productive. I have been able to learn and achieve milestones I never thought possible in such a short period. I am grateful to TIIDElab for this opportunity to advance my tech dreams, acquire skills needed for real-life day-to-day interactions, and learn the art of putting myself out there. This experience has also taught me invaluable leadership skills.

I also want to appreciate our coordinator Mr Aderoju Shamsudeen, Mrs Cynthia Shobayo, our tutors including Ayodele Samuel Adebayo , Mr Ibrahim Tijami, Mr MD Aminu, My team mentor Popoola Rahmat Omowumi, all the mentors and my teammates at TIIDELAB.

I look forward to applying everything I've learned and continuing to grow in my tech career.
